Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho rates Steven Gerrard more highly than Manchester United counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Barcelona forward played against Gerrard three times last season – and the encounters left him in no doubt as to his quality. "Cristiano is a great player. But Steven Gerrard is, for me, one of the very best in the world," said Ronaldinho. "For the job he performs, for me, he is one of the greatest."

Barcelona kid Crosas ponders Liverpool offer

Liverpool are chasing Barcelona midfielder Marc Crosas.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez has made contact with Crosas and his representatives, says El Mundo Deportivo, and hopes to know this week whether he will choose to move to England.
Crosas is also attracting interest from Real Madrid as he weighs up his options at Barca. The youngster was a regular with Barca B this season, but won't consider staying with the setup following their relegation from the Segunda B competition.

LIVERPOOL AND MAN U CHASE BRAZIL ATTACKING MIDFIELDER

Liverpool and Manchester United have both made approaches to Flamengo for attacking midfielder Renato Augusto.
Radio Globo says before United expressed interest last week about a £12 million deal for the Brazilian teenager, Flamengo actually had rejected a £9 million offer from Liverpool.
Asked about interest from the Premiership giants, Renato simply laughed leaving the question unanswered.

FORLAN FOR LIVERPOOL??

The agent of former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan has played down talk that the player could be heading to Anfield.
The Uruguayan international is understood to be a potential strike target for Rafa Benitez this summer, with claims that he has been priced out of moves for Samuel Eto'o and Carlos Tevez.
Forlan is currently playing for Villarreal in La Liga and has been in inspired form for the Yellow Submarines, scoring 52 goals in 102 appearances since joining in the summer of 2004.
The 28-year-old, who had a disappointing two-and-a-half year spell at Old Trafford, has three years left to run on his current contract but is understood to be keen on a return to the Premiership.
Forlan's agent Daniel Bolotnicoff told The Times: "There has not been any offer from Liverpool and it's very difficult to talk about what might happen when there isn't an offer there, but things can change every day.
"If he received a very good offer then he will think about it, but it will also depend on whether Villarreal are happy."

OWEN RETURN TO lIVERPOOL, FOWLER TEAMING WITH BECKHAM

Toon boss Sam Allardyce has paved the way for Michael Owen's return to Liverpool by saying he cannot keep him if the Reds offer £9m.
Fit-again England international striker Owen can quit St James' Park if a club triggers his release clause after the Magpies failed to qualify for Europe at the end of last season.
And Allardyce, who signed Aussie ace Mark Viduka last week and is hoping to complete a deal for Man City midfielder Joey Barton soon, admits he may have to start planning for life without Owen.
He said: "If Michael wants to leave there's nothing I can do about it, especially if another club triggers his release clause.
"At the moment we are benefiting from a release clause to get Joey Barton. But we could also suffer because of Michael's clause," Allardyce told the News of the World.
Should Owen move on for £9million it would represent a loss of £8million plus an estimated £10million in wages on the former Real Madrid hitman who has been restricted to just 14 games and seven goals since arriving from the Bernabeu in August 2005.
Meanwhile, Kop hero Robbie Fowler could link up with David Beckham at LA Galaxy this summer, according to reports.

Reds set for striker disappointment with Torres

Liverpool's relative lack of cash could see them miss out on Fernando Torres but the club's owners deny a rift with Rafa Benitez.
Co-owner George Gillett has denied any fall-out with Reds boss Benitez over the size of his summer transfer kitty after reports claimed Benitez has been forced to scale down his ambitions to strengthen the Anfield squad after a massive cash injection failed to materialise.
However, Gillet insists the Spaniard has always been aware of the club's financial situation.
He told The Times: "I read that Rafa is throwing hand-grenades at us and making demands, that there's a tension or disagreement between him and the Gillett and Hicks families.
"Nothing could be farther from the truth. As far back as February, Rafa laid out a programme for us.
"Each one of our sports businesses has a core concept.
"We have one at Liverpool, one we understand 100 per cent, believe in and support. The plan involves us spending money, but it will be part of a plan, not just spending like a drunken sailor."
Meanwhile, Liverpool's transfer policy could hamper their pursuit of Spain international striker Torres who is expected to quit Atletico Madrid over the summer.

CARSON KEEPS CZECHS OUT

Scott Carson kept a clean sheet as England Under-21s drew 0-0 in their European Championship opener against the Czech Republic in Holland on Monday night.
The Liverpool stopper made good saves to deny both Daniel Pudil and Jan Kysela on what was his 28th under-21 cap. England had a chance to win the game but Reading striker Leroy Lita missed from the spot. Next up for Stuart Pearce's men are pre-tournament favourites Italy, who lost their opening game against Serbia 1-0.
