Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is reportedly ready to announce his retirement from international football.
According to a report in the Mail on Sunday the 29-year-old was unhappy with England boss Steve McClaren for leaving him out of the side that faced Estonia in a Euro 2008 qualifier.
Tottenham's Ledley King was chosen ahead of Carragher, who has always been on the fringes of the national team's first eleven despite his awesome displays for his club.
A 'source close to Carragher' is quoted as saying: "Jamie does not want to sound like a big-time Charlie.
"He just feels that at this stage in his career it would be better if he concentrated his efforts on helping Liverpool become the No 1 team in England again.
"He has always regarded it as a tremendous honour to represent his country...but things have to end some time and he thinks this might be a good time to bow out."
