Gerrard serves up an ace

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will be the official Ambassador for the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament which starts on Monday at Calderstones Park.
Gerrard was a keen tennis player as a youngster and had a lot of ability, but he chose to pursue a career in football instead with his beloved Liverpool. The Reds ace has been a regular spectator at the tournament in the past and organisers are delighted to have him as an Ambassador. Anders Borg, the Liverpool Tournament Director, said: "It is fantastic for our event that we have such a fine world-class athlete such as Steven as our Ambassador. His exemplary behaviour on and off the pitch is very much in the spirit of the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament. "A world class athlete emerges at an early age. It just depends what sport they apply their talents to. If Steven had chosen tennis over football I'm sure he would have been just as successful as he is as a football player. "Having a world-class sporting superstar such as Steven Gerrard promoting our tournament can only help attract more kids into tennis and eventually we hope to see a professional player emerge from this region." The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament runs from June 12-17 and features an ATP and a WTA players event.
